It’s a Question of Control

How much control is too much? Monday morning the United States government took control of the world wide web and decided it was time to be done with a number of sites that encouraged and aided the sharing of copyrighted materials, like movies, music, books and any other intellectual property. This raised a few questions for me personally. I immediately wondered if they could do this to a site for showing you where to download certain material, could they find a reason to shutdown any type of information feed? Or do they even need a reason to do so?

Overlooking the obvious need to assist artists and other intellectual property from being shared and altered without consent, these sites did not directly violate any type of laws. Sites such as Bit-Finder, just search for these files, does that mean the results should be blocked on other search engines too? Or is the simple fact that they are contributing to the economy protect them? Either way the rules need to be defined in a way where there is very little room for interpretation. Right or wrong, black or white, otherwise the middle ground will always lean towards those with the most chips in their stack. Now I’m not saying I have the solution, but here’s hoping somebody does before its too late.

S is for Saturday Night Live?

And that’s good enough for Cookie Monster? I feel this is something that needs to be passed along. As a child I was obsessed with a certain Blue Puppet, and not only because of our shared love for a certain delicious dessert, but because I sat morning after morning enjoying his role in Sesame Street. This show was a huge part of my childhood, as I am sure it was many. This was a great time in TV, before the over zealous fanatics decided that it wasn’t appropriate for a character to eat only cookies, or that actually playing along the side of a street sent the wrong message. The fact was it made kids pay attention; I’ll be it possibly unknowingly, to the numbers letters and morals that seem to be quickly forgotten. This particular character is looking to make a come back, and take advantage by hosting Saturday Night Live, you can check out the audition tape, or Facebook page. Hey, it worked for Betty White’s comeback why not Cookie? Enjoy the tape and VOTE COOKIE!

Rainy Days and Hockey Nights

Good day friends, it’s yet another rain covered day here in the Kawartha Lakes, we were lucky enough to miss most of it during the Bobcaygeon Fair last weekend. But this weather screams for good friends, a relaxing beverage and oh yeah NHL HOCKEY! Now we’ll leave the beverage up to your own decision making, but the hockey part will soon return with people around here feeling more and more optimistic with dreams of a Leaf’s season extending beyond the 82 regular season games. Although I am not completely sold on the idea that Toronto’s playoff absence will end with the 2010-11 campaign, I do believe it will be a much more exciting on ice product than recent years past.

So the NHL season kicks off Thursday night with the Leafs playing who else but the original six rival Les Habitants and I hate to make this all about hockey (not really) but I had better add some entertainment factor. Check out my Fresh Selection segment at 2:40 every afternoon because Wednesday and Thursday I will be sharing a couple of very Canadian and very hockey oriented tunes that will get you in the perfect state of mind. My Fair Weather Friends

BOB FM has all the cash and all the class that a radio station can bring. By now everyone should know that Bob’s Beat the Bank is giving away more cold hard cash than a grandmother with dementia. That is going to be continuing for a couple more weeks so Good Luck! Today is the day that one of the biggest events in the Kawartha Lakes kicks off. It’s time for the Lindsay Central Ex. Now I have got to admit most time I am not really one for carnivals of any kind (clown related phobia, well talk about that at a later date. ) But the parade starts everything off tonight and you most definitely do not want to miss the first of 2 demolition derby’s.

The highlight for me of course is going to be the Grandstand Friday night when Hotel California and The Bayou Boys hit the stage. Special pre-show interview will be happening on my show Thursday afternoon and I’ll also be there introducing the bands and taking in all the Central Ex has to offer. So, come out hang out and enjoy the great fair atmosphere and of course the FOOD. But I have to suggest avoiding the Zipper ride for a short while after eating, could became a nauseating situation. Trippin’ Down the Freeway

Hello again. Hard to believe it has been a whole month since my last update, but the fact is this summer has been way too hot to blog, although I can’t complain about it because I have enjoyed my fair share of outings. Which reminds me I have to thank all the great people at the Woodville Community Festival Organizing Committee, I have attending this event since I was knee high to a grasshopper and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. Before moving on from that subject I have to thank all who participated in the Ricky Otter Memorial Volleyball Tournament. This is turning into a great event and everyone who knew Ricky or knows the Otter Family they have always been great supporters within Woodville and the surrounding area. For all involved the appreciation is not always evident but is always nearby so Thank You!

Heading along these summer months my latest adventure took me to the distance shores of the St Lawrence River and to the beautiful capital of Canada. This trip took me to my 2nd of 3 summer music festivals Ottawa Bluesfest. This festival was slightly different from the Belleville excursion as it is a two week long event with the likes of Great Big Sea, Carlos Santana and Rush gracing the stage. Now I wasn’t able to see all of these acts so I won’t be reviewing as I had previously done. But I will tell you that I had an eye opening blues experience when The Tommy Castro band took the stage. This was music at its core stripped down blues at its finest just an indescribable time. Oh yeah and I also saw another band named Weezer that you may have heard of lol. They put on a great show also and front man Rivers Cuomo even took it upon himself to throw on a Lady Gaga wig and offer his own rendition of “Poker Face.”

All in all great stuff and look forward to pictures from this event and also my Chicago trip if I ever get around to editing some of the content. Kelsey Out

Best of the Fest

Its official I have taken in my first music festival of the season with a couple more to follow. Music festivals are a strange combination of people, especially in this case due to the mix of performers. You basically have three types of people, first of all you have person who is only there for the headliner, in this case the guy in his mid forties standing in the front bringing back memories and screaming ZZ TOP, at the top of his lungs.

You have the 90′s music fan that in my opinion was spoiled at this particular venue, opening up with Gord Downie expanding his horizons and sharing stories of Canadian history as he takes a break from the Tragically Hip, and performs with his other band The Country of Miracles. Following them you had one of Canada’s greatest blues-reggae-rock groups Big Sugar, now I have always been a fan but you haven’t seen anything until you see Gordie Johnson and the rest of the band change genres and rock every last note. Leading up to the headliner everyone in the crowd found themselves in front of the re emergence of one of the 90′s biggest groups Collective Soul.

The final type of fan I experienced here was the younger fan who was really only here to see Finger Eleven, but when surrounded by this type of energy and musical brilliance found themselves a whole new appreciation for the music of their parents and hopefully this will open up a chance for new musical experience. Now I hope I have inspired you to check out the next Fest in the area, because when push comes to shove, chances are you’re jockeying for a spot closer to the stage. Spring Finale

I am seriously impressed with the amount of events happening already around the Kawarthas, it feels like Canada Day Long Weekend already. And with the official start of summer on the schedule for next week I couldn’t be more excited.

Now to the task at hand showing off one of my favourite bands in a new environment. No Green Day is still on stage but the Tony Awards isn’t exactly the place you would expect to see the punk rockers. But with the success of their musical American Idiot that is exactly where they found themselves. Amongst some of Broadways elite the guys even had Michael Douglas rocking along. With the help of the cast they brought Radio City Music Hall to their feet. Enjoy and make sure to Give a honk as you pass by the Studio on Kent St.. Kelsey Out.

Back @ BOB from the Clean Streets of Chicago

Hey Bobbers, I am back refreshed and ready to take on all of your requests you can always make them by giving me a call on the contest lines (705)324-9100. The more whatever the better.

I have returned from my trip to the Windy City, Chicago Illinois, and I have got to say just an amazing place. When this was chosen as my destination I expected it to be much like Toronto with an obvious American edge. But I must admit that I was pleasantly surprised with the city’s impressive history and the biggest for me thing was how clean it was. I mean I didn’t expect it to be a garbage dump by any stretch of the imagination, but there was not a single crumb of dirt or garbage to be seen.

I’m currently sorting through the pictures and will be sharing some of the more user friendly images later on this week. The history of the waterfront is amazing and some of the buildings are just a marvellous sight. I will be checking in later on with more updates but I have to leave you with my favourite thing I noticed in Chicago, and that is the Hot Dog is not only a great BBQ snack, its an art form. With onions, green peppers, hot sauce, tomatoes, pickles, and in some cases even bacon and nacho cheese its enough to make the biggest fast food enthusiast break into tears. All in all, it was a great time but its great to be home. Kelsey Out..

Summer in the City

Well hello again.. Okay now I heard on the morning show today that it is New Years resolution recommitment day. Even though it wasn’t technically a resolution I do want to get more involved with this blogging contraption. So I am recommitted and going to be entertaining and sharing some stories and incite. My first order of business is to let you know what I have been up to. Well I’ve been enjoying the sun as I am sure you have as well and even remembering to put sunscreen on (which is a rarity.) Also the NHL playoffs have been more entertaining than I could have hoped seeing two of my favourite teams battling for the cup.

With an added bonus I am going to be taking some holidays (collective sigh.. lol) and luckily enough I will be in Chicago for a possible game 5. Even though I highly doubt I will be attending the game, as it would cost me the majority of my limbs, I can’t wait to experience that type of atmosphere. Now as long as they don’t get over excited (Montreal we’re looking at you) should all just be great fun. I will be taking pictures and hopefully updating this post at least once during the trip. I promise I will try and keep the crudeness to a minimum.. Keep Kickin’ it in the Kawarthas all summer long

New Tunes New Talk

Hey, Can you tell I am a just the smallest bit excited about Robin Hood opening this weekend? Disney movies used to rock also.. Ha

I am such a slacker when it comes to posting on the same day every week. But I have caught up after the Mother’s Day weekend (hope you enjoyed how Mr. T shows appreciation to his mother lol) and I’ve found the topic of discussion. I’ve started a new segment every weekday afternoon and I am looking for some feedback on the songs played to better understand what needs to be played again.
